Why

Access to mental health services has been challenging in rural and regional areas for many years. The problems of access to specialist services, due to a lack of absolute services as well as cost, have only increased.

As GPs who have faced the challenges of specialist assessments and services for our patients, we are working on ‘bridging the gap’.

Our aim is that by using our knowledge and accessibility, we can reduce timeframes and reduce barriers to assessment and treatment.

Our aim is that by using our knowledge and accessibility, we can reduce timeframes and reduce barriers to assessment and treatment. By providing initial assessments and investigations, where appropriate, we can then arrange for multidisciplinary case conferencing and referral to either psychiatry, pediatrics, psychology and/or other allied health to determine if further treatment (medication and non-medication based) is appropriate or needed.  Suitable follow-up care and review are also provided. Ultimately, handing ongoing care and recommendations back to the usual GP is the goal.

Kaleidoscope Clinic recognises the unique challenges faced by transgender, gender diverse, and gender questioning young people and adults.

We provide referrals to private psychologists, sexual health physicians, fertility specialists, and allied health practitioners to support their specific needs.

With current QLD Health restrictions on public access for gender aƯirming care of adolescents, please mention any specific financial considerations that may prevent such young people from accessing appropriate care. We look forward to collaborating with you to ensure the well-being of your patients and strongly believe that all gender diverse young people should be able to access appropriate care, both medical and psychological.
